You Don't Know Jack Volume 2 is the third installment in the You Don't Know Jack series, and the second general knowledge edition. It was originally released on November 30th 1996 and is hosted by Buzz Lippman.

Gameplay[]

The game is largely the same as the original You Don't Know Jack. However, it introduces a few new features that weren't in the original game, including the Dis Or Dat question type which would go on to become a main-stay of the series. During the sign-on process, the game will ask you how many people are playing, the names of those playing and how many questions they want to answer - 7 being a short game and 21 being a long game.

Once in the game, players take turns picking categories and then answering questions. Each question is worth a different amount of money: $1000, $2000 or $3000. Players buzz in and then select the answer that they believe is correct. Answering a question correctly will reward you with money amount on offer while getting the question wrong will cost you that amount. (During Round 2 - i.e. the second half of the game - all values are doubled.) Once the final round - the Jack Attack - is complete, the final scores are shown and the player with the most money is the winner.

Players have the ability to "Screw Your Neighbor." If a player buzzes in and presses the 'S' key, they can select a player to "screw," thus forcing them to answer the question even if they don't know the answer. However, if the "screwed" player answers the question correctly, then the player that issued the screw ends up losing money instead.

Question Types[]

Below is a list of all special question types, the Round 1 values on offer and how to play them.

Dis or Dat
$500

The player that chose the category plays this question type solo. Dis or Dat tasks the player with choosing between two options (or sometimes both) for a given prompt. For example, is Cirrhosis a Shakespearean play or a disease? Every correct answer awards $500 while every incorrect answer loses $500. If the player doesn't know the answer, they can skip the current prompt and come back to it later - if they have time.
Gibberish Question
$5,000

Gibberish Questions have a nonsense phrase appear that rhymes with the correct answer. As time goes by, the money on offer will go down and the player will receive hints from the host. The first player to buzz in and type the correct answer will win the remaining amount of money, while those that answer incorrectly will lose the money on offer at the time.
Can You Remember?
Varies
Buzz needs help remembering something. He is going to describe something, giving hints every so often to help players guess what it is he has forgotten. Once a player knows the answer, they buzz in and type in the answer
Jack Attack
$2,000

The final round. When you see the correct answer, buzz in to score $2,000. But if you guess wrong, you get cash taken away. And don't forget... REMEMBER THE CLUE!

International versions[]

The You Don’t Know Jack Volume 2 engine was used for 4 known international versions:

You Don't Know Jack Germany[]

The first volume of You Don’t Know Jack in German was built on this version. It is hosted by Quizmaster Jack, and preceded three more volumes. It has question segue songs translated from the English version. The winnings were shown in Marks, while the following games showed them in Euros.

  • Sekt oder Selters (Dis or Dat)
  • Schnickschnack Frage (Gibberish Question)
  • Fiberoptischer Telefonterror (Fiber Optic Field Trip)

You Don't Know Jack UK[]

The British version is hosted by Jack Cake, and replaces the Fiber Optic Field Trips and Celebrity Collect Calls in the British edition of the game. Instead of calling a random person in a city, the host calls a bartender in a random pub within the UK to host the question.

You Don't Know Jack France[]

The French version has not changed much, has completely original question segues. The host name is Jack, voiced by Walther Pépéka. It contains more than 750 questions, including simple questions.

  • MCQ (Multiple-choice questions)
  • Couci-Couça (Dis or Dat)
  • Rimatologie (Gibberish Question)
  • Drelin-Drelin (Fiber Optic Field Trip)

You Don't Know Jack Presented by 浜田雅功[]

Template:Main A Japanese localization of the game has existed, entitled “YOU DON’T KNOW JACK Presented by 浜田雅功“ (YOU DON’T KNOW JACK Presented by Masatoshi Hamada) which was released on March 30, 2000. For a long time, not much about this version was known except for an article on GameSpot.com , a photo of the box available on Jellyvision's Website, and what was originally the only gameplay video on YouTube.

It was made in association with the comedy agency Yoshimoto Kogyo Co. Ltd., and was hosted by Masatoshi Hamada, who was a popular comedian known for his performances as the comedy duo Downtown, co-hosts of the variety TV show Gaki no Tsukai, as well as being the Japanese voice of Shrek. In this Japanese version, Hamada does double duty as the host and the green-room signup assistant.

Trivia[]

  • To date, this is Buzz Lippman's only full hosting role in a You Don't Know Jack game. Though he does appear in The Ride, he doesn't get to host a full episode.
  • This is the only game in the series where the host does NOT participate in the Gibberish Question Easter Egg. Instead, Old Man takes Buzz's place.
