Headrush is a teen spin-off version of the You Don't Know Jack series. It is the eighth game in the series, released on April 20th, 1998 and is hosted by the one-off host Bob.
Design[]
In contrast to previous You Don't Know Jack games, Headrush was aimed at teenagers during the later 90's, when it was first released. As a result, a lot of visual changes were made to appeal to that demographic. Among other things, players are now assigned to be either the color red, green or blue after sign-in and get to select what their avatar looks like. Also, question segues are now short cartoon animations and are randomized each time you play.
Gameplay & Question Types[]
The game is You Don't Know Jack in all but name. The main structure of the series is present but has rebranded mechanics as well as some new ones. Question values in Headrush are worth ten times what they usually are. Beyond that, the game plays exactly like a traditional You Don't Know Jack game. However, there is only one round of play and only 10 questions - excluding the Jack Attack, which has been rebranded as the Headrush. Once the Headrush has been completed, the final scores are shown and the player with the most money wins.
"Screwing" has been rebranded to "biting." If a player buzzes in and presses the space bar, they can select a player to "bite," thus forcing them to answer the question even if they don't know the answer. However, if the "bitten" player answers the question correctly, then the player that issued the bite ends up losing money instead.
Below is a list of all special question types.
Dis or Dat ($5,000) | |
---|---|
The player that chose the category plays this question type solo. Dis or Dat tasks the player with choosing between two options (or sometimes both) for a given prompt. For example, was "The Saint™" a movie or TV show first? Every correct answer awards $5,000 while every incorrect answer loses $5,000. If the player doesn't know the answer, they can skip the current prompt and come back to it later - if they have time. | |
Headbutt [NEW] ($50,000) | |
You are going to be shown an equation between two seemingly unrelated items. The combination of those items will result in a pop culture reference that players must guess. For example "South Park™" citizen + lowest MPAA™ rating = Kenny G. As time goes by, the money on offer will go down and the player will receive hints from the host. The first player to buzz in and type the correct answer will win the remaining amount of money, while those that answer incorrectly will lose the money on offer at the time. | |
Old Man's Moldy Memories (Varies) | |
Rebranded version of Can You Remember? Old Man needs help remembering something. He is going to describe something, giving hints every so often to help players guess what it is he has forgotten. Once a player knows the answer, they buzz in and type in the answer. | |
Headrush ($5,000) | |
Rebranded version of the Jack Attack. The final round. When you see the correct answer, buzz in to score $5,000. But if you guess wrong, you get cash taken away. And don't forget... REMEMBER THE CLUE! |
Trivia[]
- Even though this game was aimed at teenagers upon release, Headrush still contains a "Fuck You" Easter Egg that can be activated during the Headbutt question type.
- The games host, Bob, is voiced by Andy Poland who voices another You Don't Know Jack host in Guy Towers.
- There does exist two easter eggs in the game that are directly tied with the player's winnings.
- If a player exceeds $450,000 in winnings, the character that the player chose at the start of the session will be huge, with Bob freaking out about the size of the player(This also results in the player breaking the Silver Tier, with their buzzer icon being silver in color)
- If a player exceeds $750,000 in winnings, Abraham Lincoln will make a cameo appearance, with his gold tooth being visible and his eyes will be replaced by lasers(This also results in the player breaking the Gold Tier, with their buzzer icon being gold in color)
