Weapons Drawn is the fifth game to be announced for The Jackbox Party Pack 8, having been announced on July 22, 2021.

Gameplay[]

In the game, every player is both a detective and a murderer.

Drawing Weapons[]

At the start of every round, the players will draw two weapons on their device. Every weapon has a calling card, which is a letter from the drawer's name. If the drawer's name consists of purely numbers, the game will add a title, such as Sir 80008 or Esq. 8008. Calling cards must be included in drawings, and you'll have to try to hide it as part of the image. One of somebody's two weapons will be dropped as a "gift" for evidence.

Prompt list[]

TBA

Naming and Murdering Accomplices[]

Everybody will also bring an accomplice. Players must come up with a guest name that stands out, but will not lead to the player who came up with it. If there are only 4 players, Lord Tippet will bring his own guest. When the lights turn off, players will try to match accomplices to the people who brought them. Those who bind them will successfully kill the guest, but the player's murder weapon will be left as evidence. If a match is incorrect, the player will get a clue to help them deduce who brought the accomplice.

Investigation[]

When the murdered guests are discovered, an investigation begins. Everyone will have to vote on which case to solve first, and the player who brought the murdered guest will be the lead detective, he gets a magnifying glass that will help to enlarge the drawing and see it more closely. Players, communicating and reasoning, vote for who, in their opinion, killed this particular guest. If there's a tie between two or more people, it's a hung jury and nobody is convicted.

Cold Cases[]

After the 3 main investigation rounds, the clock will hit midnight and the Cold Cases will begin. In this round there will be all unsolved cases from previous rounds. Players in the allotted time need to quickly decide who committed the murder. The magnifying glass is also removed, which makes it much more difficult to identify the killer. In this round, even if there is a draw in terms of voting, the killer will still be shown, and in their drawing it will appear which letter was hidden. Also at this point, the game will show how many detectives (players) the killer was able to deceive.

Types of Points[]

Detective Points: These are earned for correctly solving cases. If the majority votes for an innocent person, you can still earn points if you voted for the correct murderer.
Murderer Points: These are earned by committing murders on the guests. The longer you can get away with a murder, the more points you can earn. These points can also be earned by convincing players to vote the wrong people in Cold Cases.
Accomplice Points: Every time a killing attempt is used on an accomplice, it earns the bringer bonus points.

The Overall Winner[]

The winner of the game is determined by who gathered the most of every type of point throughout the entire game. For example, if you were the #1 Detective, you could still lose to somebody who was the #1 Murderer and had the #1 Most Popular Accomplices.

Credits Song[]

What am I seeing

Is it so easy?
Look on the ceiling
Keep calling to me

No one’s immortal
No hands are clean
You won’t survive this
Goodbye, sweet dreams…

I found your calling card
And I caught you so off guard
Guilty, sorry, everybody knows
(Yes, we know)

Spin me ‘round the darkened room
Am I next? We must assume
Weapons drawn—oh something’s wrong
Will you stay? Run away!

The door was cracked
Saw a shadow in the hall
I heard your footsteps
You didn’t notice me at all

But what you told me
Was never really real
Cause I found your weapon
How does it feel?

I found your calling card
And I caught you so off guard
Did you even try to get away?

Light your candle, give me a guess
Do you see the evidence?
Weapons drawn—oh something’s wrong
Good argument, but I’m innocent

Achievements[]

Elementary – At least one detective gets every case right, including Cold Cases
Belle of the Ball – A single Accomplice receives 10 murder attempts
Dead of Night – Play the game at midnight

Trivia[]

  • The yellow detective is seen posing with a guinea pig in their portrait, a spoof to how many commissioned portraits would do just that with their commonly exotic or expensive pets, by using a pet not many people see as (or know is) exotic.
  • Lord Tippet has a pet chinchilla named Beauregard.
  • This game shares a lot of similarities to the board game Cluedo, down to the gameplay, setting, unusual weaponry, and even character designs.
  • The fonts used in this game are Type Wronger JNL, Foundation Sans Roman & Old Man Eloquent Bold.
  • In the game's SWF files, pictures of flags from different countries can be found, suggesting that the game (and likely it's fellow packmates) was considered to get multiple official translations, either on release or from a Language Pack, but was eventually scrapped for unknown reasons.
  • During the final round, the portrait frames for the blue and pink detectives are incorrectly switched. This may be a mistake by the developers.
