Quiplash is a game in The Jackbox Party Pack series. All Quiplash games as of The Jackbox Party Pack 3 are on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, and PC. 3 to 8 players can join the game and 10,000 players can join the audience. Players must write funny/stupid answers to questions asked of the players on their devices. All versions of the game are hosted by Josh "Schmitty" Schmitstenstein.

Game Rules[]

In the first and second rounds, players must give an answer to two prompts in the allotted time. Once all the players give their answers of after the response timer runs out, the players' 'quips' are revealed. When both answers to the prompt are shown, players and audience members choose one of the two answers, or they may not choose at all. After the votes are counted, points are handed out:

  • In the first round, points are awarded according to the formula "1% of those who voted = 10 points" + a bonus of 100 points for winning. In the second round, these values are doubled.
  • A player will get a "Quiplash" if all the players and more than half of the audience voted for their quip. The reward is an additional 250 points instead of 100. If more than 90% of the audience votes for the quip, then it's a "Super Quiplash".
  • If both players wrote exactly the same answer, the prompt is declared a "JINX" and neither of the players get points.
  • If a player does not give an answer to the prompt in time, or their answer got censored by moderation or manually, then their opponent will get all the points by default.

The player with the highest number of points (including any ties for the highest number) after three rounds is declared the winner.

Final Round[]

In the games Quiplash and Quiplash XL, in the final round, all players answer the same prompt. Then each player gives three of their votes (you can give them both for one option, distribute them or a combination of both); each audience member has only one vote. After that, all players divide 3000 points according to the formula "1% of those who voted = 30 points".

The final round in Quiplash 2 - The Last Lash - is also changed so that it can be one of three different types of unique prompts:

Acro Lash
Acro Lash
Come up with an acronym for a series of three letters.
Comic Lash
Comic Lash
Finish a comic strip.
Word Lash
Word Lash
Come up with a clever sentence that includes a certain word.

After the timer ends, the players are shown all the answers. Players must choose the three best answers, awarding a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively; in 3 or 4 player games, you only have to award gold and silver. Audience members only have one vote. All players then receive points based on the voting results.

The final round in Quiplash 3 has changed its name along with its gameplay. It is now named Thrip Lash, and rather than everyone answering one prompt, players are given a prompt that they must give three answers to. As usual, the other players and the audience must decide which set of three are the funniest. In odd-numbered games, a player that's ranked last on the second round is chosen to quip against Schmitty himself (with Schmitty simply answering with a pre-written response, even on player-made prompts).

Franchise Games & Innovation[]

Quiplash & Quiplash XL[]

Quiplash was released on June 30, 2015 and is a stand-alone title for $9.99. It also has a DLC called Quip Pack 1 for $0.99 that came out on August 15, 2015.

Quiplash XL is part of The Jackbox Party Pack 2 and was released on October 13, 2015 for $24.99. Same as the game Quiplash , but contains more prompts, including Quip Pack 1 by default.

Quiplash 2[]

Quiplash 2 is part of The Jackbox Party Pack 3 and was released on October 18, 2016 for $24.99.

Introduced in Quiplash 2 is a Safety Quip option, which provides half points and inserts a random submission as the answer. There is also an option to play a game using user-generated prompts. Once all players are in the game, they will then come up with their own prompts for other people to answer. This does not apply for The Last Lash, which as usual will always be one of the three above-mentioned prompt types. Custom games can be saved to the user's system and played again later, and even generate a unique 7-digit code so that other people can access it from their system.

Quiplash 2 InterLASHional[]

Quiplash2InterLASHionalLogo

Quiplash 2 InterLASHional is a version of Quiplash 2, with the option to play games in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Each language has 100 additional questions.

Jackbox developed the InterLASHional version following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that forced many people to stay home on lockdown; the various Jackbox Party Packs had become popular games played over streaming network services to help people pass the time and created a large influx of players. Jackbox saw that many of these were non-English speakers, leading them to decide to create the standalone of Quiplash 2 with translations for French, Italian, German, and Spanish in addition to English.

Quiplash 3[]

Quiplash 3 was revealed to be part of The Jackbox Party Pack 7 and is the third game in the series. On March 24 Jackbox Games announced the first title in The Jackbox Party Starter.

Quiplash 3 has new hosting features, such as security, moderation and the character selection feature. Unlike the previous games, it has a pseudo-claymation style as opposed to the previous games' 2D animation. Also, the Safety Quip was reworked in this game to answer with something decently related to the prompt. However, half points still apply.

Credits Song[]

Quiplash 3
Well, it’s you against me
I’m the king of party

You’re just a wannabe

Well, the prompt shows up
You give it your best shot
Then it’s head-to-head
In a comedy onslaught

Quiplash 3
It’s time to bring the funny
When it comes to witty repartee
I got a PhD

(bridge)
Quiplash… Quiplash 3
Will the audience vote for me?
Gotta muster some creativity
Get back on a winning spree…

(solo)

When it’s time for the final round
And you’re feeling carefree
Instead of writing one thing down
Now you’ve gotta write three

Quiplash 3
Laughs guaranteed
It’s funny to the third degree
The perfect way to party

… Quiplash 3!

Trivia[]

  • If you put in specific responses for prompts, Schmitty actually responds to them. When triggered, the player receives an achievement named "Quip Pro Quo" ("Back Talk" on certain platforms). To see more about this, visit the Quiplash (series):List of Prompts page.
    • There are several instances in all games where answering with 'Quiplash' will get you a response from Schmitty. These can range from calling it "The world's most boring video game." or "A game you only play when you are really, really, really, REALLY bored."
  • An additional Easter Egg in all versions of Quiplash exists where, if all players put in no answers to their prompts or if all of their answers have been censored by moderation, Schmitty will automatically end the game.
  • In Trivia Murder Party 2, one of the Killing Floor minigames for two players has you play a round of Quiplash, with Schmitty narrating. Some of the questions are normal, but some indicate that he was kidnapped by the TMP host. While the rules of the game are the same, the player that ends up losing will die. Players will also die if they fail to submit an answer in time.
  • The first installment of the series was funded via Kickstarter.
  • The fonts used in Quiplash XL are Rockwell Std, Rockwell Std Condensed, Rockwell Std Bold, Rockwell Std Bold Condensed, Rockwell Std Extra Bold & Lango Px Bold.
  • The fonts used in Quiplash 2 are Rockwell Std, Rockwell Std Condensed, Rockwell Std Bold, Rockwell Std Bold Condensed, Rockwell Std Extra Bold, Lango Px Bold,
  • The fonts used in Quiplash 3 are Rockwell Std, Rockwell Std Itallic, Rockwell Std Condensed, Rockwell Std Bold, Rockwell Std Bold Italic, Rockwell Std Bold Condensed, Rockwell Std Extra Bold, Lango Px Bold & Foundation Sans Light.
  • The Quiplash players are unnamed, yet the fanbase has decided to dub them "Quips". This name does cause confusion between the players and the in-game quips, however.
    • While not nearly as popular, another fan name given to these characters are "Quiplads".
  • There's debate within the fandom if the yellow player introduced in Quiplash 3 is a moon or a banana.
    • The game's SWF files state it's a moon, so canonically: that player is a moon, and not a banana.
  • The Kitten player is currently the only player canonically stated as a minor, due to kitten being a juvenile cat.
  • In Quiplash 3 while waiting for moderation, one of Schmitty's voice lines has him singing "Quiplash, Quiplash, do-do-do..." to the tune of the You Don't Know Jack theme before saying, "Sorry, wrong game."
  • The Quiplash team tested out a few different art directions before landing on its concept.
